Brief Bio
Janis Osis is professor at Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Riga Technical University, Latvia. Since 1965 his research interests are topological modeling of complex systems with applications in technical and medical diagnostics. He is the founder of the theoretical background for topological modeling. Recent fields of interest are object-oriented system analysis, modeling and design, Formal Methods of Software Engineering, Software development within the framework of MDA of business and embedded systems by means of topological functioning model support.
He graduated Latvian State University cum lauda and received diploma of Electrical engineering in electrical systems. After doctoral studies in Sanktpeterburg Electrical University, Russia he obtained his Dr.sc.ing. Degree (Candidate of Science in former USSR equal to PhD) from Kaunas Technological University, Lithuania. After defence of habilitation thesis titled "Diagnostics of Complex systems" he received his Dr.habil.sc.ing. Degree (Doctor of Science in former USSR) in system analysis from Latvian Academy of Sciences. He was visiting researcher at Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California, Berkeley, USA and Dipartimento di Matematica Pura ed Applicata, Università degli Studi di Padova, Italia.
He is Honorary Member of Latvian Academy of Sciences and Member of the International Editorial Board, Journal Automatic Control and Computer Sciences, Allerton Press, Inc. Riga, New York. He was the President (1992 - 1996) and the Council member (1996 - 2003) of the Latvian National Organization of Automatics.
