                            Brief Bio 
                            Erika Nazaruka received Doctor’s degree (Dr.sc.ing.) in information technology with specialization in system analysis, modeling and design from Riga Technical University in 2006. She is Associate Professor at the Department of Applied computer Science at Riga Technical University since 2013. She also has an experience as a Software Developer. She is author of more than 60 conference papers, five book chapters and one book. Her research interests include topological modelling of system functioning, software quality assurance, model-driven and object-oriented software development. Latvian Academy of Sciences has awarded her and her co-author, Janis Osis, for the book “Model-Driven Software Development: Architectures and Functions”, which was recognized as one of the most significant theoretical achievements of Latvian Science in 2011. Since 2019 she is Corresponding Member of Latvian Academy of Sciences.

                            Brief Bio 
                            Janis Osis is Professor at Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Riga Technical University, Latvia. He obtained his Dr.sc.ing. Degree from Kaunas Technological University, Lithuania. After defence of habilitation thesis titled “Diagnostics of Complex systems” he received his Dr.habil.sc.ing. Degree in system analysis from Latvian Academy of Sciences. He was visiting researcher at Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California, Berkeley, USA and Dipartimento di Matematica Pura ed Applicata, Universita’ degli Studi di Padova, Italia. His research interests are topological modeling of complex systems with applications in technical and medical diagnostics. Recent fields of interest are object-oriented system development, formal methods of software engineering, topological UML modeling, model driven software development (including the OMG standard of MDA) by means of topological functioning model support. Since 1998 he is Honorary Member of Latvian Academy of Sciences.

        SCOPE
    
     
    
    
        While software development has traditionally been more of an empirical art than an engineering discipline, this is slowly changing as software users demand from software engineers the same levels of system reliability and predictability that are achieved by engineers in other disciplines. The workshop focuses on theoretical and practical aspects of Object Management Group’s Model-Driven Architecture, Model-Driven Software Development, Domain-Specific Languages based on models, Model-Driven Engineering, Model transformation and code generation, models for real-time and embedded systems, Models for SOA and web service design, Models for software product lines, and other Model-Driven Innovations for Software Engineering. All these closely-linked fields including Model-Driven Domain Analysis and Model-Driven Software Development are advancing rapidly as practitioners and theoreticians work together to create new techniques and extend understanding of how and why existing methods work (and also why they sometimes fail).The present fourth edition of the Special session on Model Driven Innovations for Software Engineering (MDI4SE 2018) follows the traditions of previous events (Barcelona, Spain 2015, Rome, Italy 2016, and Porto, Portugal 2017). It aims to bring together academics, researchers and industrial partners to share innovative achievements and discuss on how to improve quality, reliability and effectiveness of IT products and services.
