CO-CHAIRS

Gundars Alksnis
Applied Computer Sciences, Riga Technical University
Latvia

Brief Bio
Gundars Alksnis is a docent at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Riga Technical University, Latvia. He has received Dr.sc.ing. in 2008 in the field of Information Technologies. He has been a part of the faculty since 2005, but before that had worked in the industry. His research interests include problem domain modelling, application lifecycle management, service oriented computing and formalization of software development towards disciplined approach. He likes to teach IT to the students and keeps up with the trends in the software development industry. He has authored or co-authored 17 research papers and is a member of IEEE Computer Society and Association of Computing Machinery.
Janis Osis
Applied Computer sciences, Riga Technical University
Latvia

Brief Bio
Janis Osis is Professor at Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at Riga Technical University, Latvia. He obtained his Dr.sc.ing. Degree from Kaunas Technological University, Lithuania. After defence of habilitation thesis titled “Diagnostics of Complex systems” he received his Dr.habil.sc.ing. Degree in system analysis from Latvian Academy of Sciences. He was visiting researcher at Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California, Berkeley, USA and Dipartimento di Matematica Pura ed Applicata, Universita’ degli Studi di Padova, Italia. His research interests are topological modeling of complex systems with applications in technical and medical diagnostics. Recent fields of interest are object-oriented system development, formal methods of software engineering, topological UML modeling, model driven software development (including the OMG standard of MDA) by means of topological functioning model support. Since 1998 he is Honorary Member of Latvian Academy of Sciences.

SCOPE

The special Session focuses on theoretical and practical aspects of Object Management Group’s Model-Driven Architecture, Model-Driven Software Development, Model-Driven Engineering, and other Model-Driven Innovations for Software Engineering. It also aims to bring together academics and researchers to share and discuss on Domain-Specific Languages based on models.

• Formalization of deriving use-cases from the CIM-business model
• Automatic and semi-automatic transformation from CIM to PIM
• Modeling theory-driven development of software
• Reconciling software requirements and architectures within MDA
• Modeling formalization of MDA’s software development
• Model transformation and code generation
• Model based techniques to guarantee the quality and efficiency of software development
• Domain modeling approaches in information systems engineering
• Model-Driven domain modeling, analysis and software development
• Domain-Specific Modeling Languages (DSMLs)
• Domain-Specific Languages based on models
• Language usability, adoption and development environments
• Abstract and concrete syntax for models
• Internal and external Domain-Specific Language
• Models for software product lines
• Models for SOA and web service design
• MDA-based distributed real-time and embedded systems
• Innovations and improvements of MDA
• MDA tools
• Round-trip engineering
• Prototyping
• Testing, verification and debugging
• Metrics for models
• Foundations, including formal methods, semantics and theory
• Industry standards and regulation
• High-level frameworks and high-performance computing
• Teaching MDE and using MDE in teaching
• Trade-offs in MDE and MDA adoption
• Examples of successful MDE-based projects

Previous History: The Special Session is the evolution of a series of events organized from 2009 that aims to foster research on foundations, practical applications and implications of Model-Driven Architecture on a software development.
